What do you think of when you think of fall decorating? Many of us think of Halloween; jack-o-lanterns, maybe a few pumpkins, and maybe some Halloween-centric lawn or porch accessories. Those are all wonderful and fun elements of fall decorating, but the first day of winter isn’t until December! We still have a lot of fall left! Here are some tips on how to make the most of your fall décor post-Halloween.
Pumpkins aren’t just for jack-o-lanterns! Uncarved pumpkins and gourds can add life and visual interest indoors and out all season long. If not cut, many pumpkins will stay fresh until well after Halloween, with gourds and “fancy” varieties lasting even longer. They’re a great way to add color and texture to a porch display or centerpiece.
Hay bales can be used to create surfaces where there were none and bring added height and dimension to outdoor displays. Arrange decorative scarecrows, pumpkins, mums and flower displays on and around hay bales for a picture perfect lawn or front porch.
Flowers really bring your masterpiece together. Mums are a classic option and a favorite for every fall display both indoors and outdoors. They come in a variety of colors and their rounded shape gives a neat and tidy look. But don’t stop there! Creating potted arrangements are another way to bring color to your displays that can keep looking beautiful through to spring. Look for pansies, snapdragons, decorative cabbages and kale, ivies, and more to create colorful, inviting containers. Not sure how to start? What really makes your decorating memorable are the details. Outdoors, add small scarecrows and football team flags to really express your spirit! Indoors, add small faux foliage, indoor plants, decorative towels, and more!
